Dialectical Behavior Therapy

Individuals who enter a DBT program often have greater emotional sensitivities and greater emotional intensities which take longer to resolve than the average individual. Sometimes, individuals may seek out short-term strategies to resolve the intensity and duration of emotional states that work effectively in the moment and create more distress long-term. These behaviors may include self-harm, making suicide attempts, avoidance of difficult emotions of situations, binge eating, restricting eating, substance use, or other impulsive type behaviors.

Dialectical Behavior therapy programs provide services which encompasses full model treatment including a variety of different treatment structures aimed to support and provide a wholistic approach to care while building a life worth living.

These structures include:

  1. Individual therapy
  2. DBT skills group therapy
  3. Phone Coaching
  4. Therapist consultation with other DBT treatment providers
  5. Ongoing assessment to track and monitor treatment progress

DBT is seen as the most effective treatment for borderline personality disorder. DBT has also been researched to treat several types of conditions to include:

  • Borderline Personality Disorder
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Binge Eating
  • Traumatic Brain Injury
  • Self-harm
